Though this book was published 50 years ago, it is not outdated as we today struggle to find our way in the world. The novel begins with an internal monologue by the 31-year-old Maria Wyeth who is recovering from a mental breakdown and a stay in a psychiatric hospital. Slowly we learn the story of her anguish.... I also highly recommend the 1972 film by the same name starring Tuesday Weld and Anthony Perkins. I read this book when it was first published and saw the film in a theatre. I have never forgotten the impact they had upon me, so I reread the book to see if the effect was still profound. It was!! Highly recommend. Kristi & Abby Tabby
