Since the Sixties, Thich Nhat Hanh, a Vietnamese Buddhist monk, has popularized Zen Buddhism (or "engaged buddhism" as he refers to it) for Western audiences. His wisdom is rooted in Buddhist teachings that are similar to those of the Dalai Lama. His message has an element of peace activism and he worked closely with Martin Luther King, Jr. for a time. Despite being in his nineties, Thich Nhat Hanh still endeavors to spread his wisdom globally because the world still needs his words, now more than ever. If you are interested into looking at Buddhism, you would be in good hands on the path with Thich Nhat Hanh.
