My children are age 3 and 6, and we finally read Mo Willem's Knuffle Bunny for the first time. (I am not sure how we neglected this for so many years!) The illustration method is original and refreshing: sepia-toned photos of Brooklyn with hand-drawn collage "cartoon-style" characters collaged on top. The story is nearly universal. A little girl loses her beloved stuffed-animal, and her parents recover it. Think: A Pocket for Courdory. But layered sweetly with language development and a good old-fashioned "boneless" (seemlingly irrational) tantrum on the street, it is a sweet statement about language development, communication and toddlerhood. When you close the book, you will turn to your spouse and reminisce about that time you forgot your child's "lovie" at the daycare over the weekend.
