When Stanley's mom goes on a trip overnight, Stanley isn't quite sure how to deal with his feelings. Deciding to take a trip of his own, Stanley hops in his rocket ship (which looks remarkably like a cardboard box) and goes to Mars. Soon, his rocket ship returns with a real-life Martian in it! (Who looks REMARKABLY like Stanley.) The Martian eats Stanley's dinner, goes to school for him, and waits until Stanley's mom gets home. This book is excellent for kiddos going through any type of separation anxiety. It shows how you can get through things you're having a hard time with by using your imagination.
