On a dark and stormy winter solstice an injured man appears at the Swan Inn carrying what appears to be a dead child. She is laid out, but then upon another examination she breathes! A couple come forward to claim her, yet others think she resembles their missing daughter or sister. Who is the little girl and how did she come to be in the river? This is such a delightful gothic novel. I think fans of Setterfield's The Thirteenth Tale will be pleased with this second effort.
