With this as a fantasy story, I was trying to decide when it possibly would have happened in our timeline of life. Caledonia Styx is a young woman who is the captain of her own ship the Mors Navis with a crew of only girls and women. They are trying to stay alive and away from Aric Athair and his fleet called Bullets. The boys are taken from their families and given a drug called Silt to keep them in line and keep them loyal. Aric seems to rule the seas. The Mors Navis is equipped with electronics that are more advanced than what we have. This book is filled with strong female characters. The book starts with Caledonia and her best friend are on an island getting supplies. They see their entire families killed by a bullet ship because Caledonia didn’t kill a bullet she encountered on the island. So now she is carrying that guild around and is trying to find that bullet so she could kill him. There main characters on the Mors Navis are very different. The loyalty of the crew is very strong. There are a few female Bullets and Caledonia saves one called Hime and she uses sign language to communicate. She had to detox from the Silt and because of that, Caledonia and the rest of the crew are very protective of her. The story is a bit slow at the beginning but then ramps up the second half of the book. There is so much I like about this book and had so much fun reading it. If you like pirates, fantasy and girl power, pick this one up. I can’t wait for the next book.
