I really enjoyed Borneman's 1812, but this book fell a little short of that one. I do not like when authors seem to be talking to me conversationally in their text (like when Borneman writes, "We left Brigadier James Wolfe in August 1758, as he was savoring the fall of Louisbourg...") or when authors ask questions in the text ("And what of the flaming James Wolfe?") That said, I found this book to be a very readable introduction to the French and Indian War. The maps that are included are also very helpful for understanding the geography of the different theaters of war. Finally, several published reviews were critical of the lack of Indian perspective in the book, and I have to agree that it is severely lacking.
