I really liked Bazooka_Joe's comment "was nothing but a babbling, clueless schizophrenic who actually had conversations with burning bushes and blindly believed the "God" worked in mysterious ways"; I think this was exactly what Scorsese was going for. What would Jesus's behaviours look like to the rest of us before he accepted his destiny as saviour of the world? Shows his unwillingness to accept to such a heavy burden, showcasing his human qualities, weaknesses & desires before taking on the mantle 'Our Lord Jesus Christ'. Imagine a a crazy looking stranger from the desert shows up in your village & raises from the dead your rotting, fly eaten relative? Scorsese scores with his creepy, gritty depiction of the realities of Jesus's life & trials he endured. Engrossing
