This is a horror film, but with a point. We also watched the interviews with the film maker, and it seems he wanted to combine classic horror themes with some other concepts about race that he understood would make people uncomfortable. He said he hoped it would open avenues of conversation. Honestly, the racial themes were extreme, and they bothered me. I feel like we need bi-directional healing in our culture, and I'm not sure whether this film promotes that or sinks back in the wrong direction. In the end, I worry that it promotes a hurtful concept that whites and blacks are really never friends, which is just wrong.
