Riveting, disconcerting, and often very witty. This put Errol Morris on the map as a distinctive moviemaker who works across genres and emerges with his own. As important to nonfiction films as "In Cold Blood" is to nonfiction writing. Even if Morris had only made TBL, which is one of the great pictures of the 1980s, he'd be well established as a director.
