It's not a movie of gore. It's not a movie of jump scares. It's a movie of eerie soundtracks over long, dark camera angles which, from watching all the other movies, we know are set-ups for jump scares, and which leave viewers tense with anticipation that is not fully resolved through the expected fright. This scene-crafting early combines with fleshed-out emotional and social anguish for both the main characters which all blends into a taut 'confront your inner demons' and 'confront our outer demons' crescendo to leave a satisfying yet not truly 'happy' ending. The acting is good. My only complaint is the degree to which the primary character has refused to seek professional help for her emotional anguish for years after it has set in. It's realistic, I suppose, yet frustrating. Would have been for her son, too, perhaps; hence the movie.
