I love the Sookie Stackhouse series, partly because the characters are so great, but also because the books are rich in humor. Grave Sight has a couple of things in common with the Sookie books: It's set in the South, there's a mystery to be solved, and occult forces are at work. However, this isn't the comedic romp that you'd find in the True Blood series. The heroine has a dry sense of humor, but that's regularly dampened by the rotten way people treat her "otherness" and the horrible circumstances in which she finds herself. This novel is darker and more introspective. It's not a spoof on various genres. In the True Blood books, mention is made that people treat Sookie differently because she has an ability that they don't understand and that they mistrust. In this book, that issue is treated more thoroughly and more seriously.
