Steven, who has just graduated high school, recounts his “friendship” (there’s no better term, but that’s hopelessly inaccurate) with David, a troubled young man who placed their high school under siege in April. Steven is credited with saving the school and everyone in it. The story weaves the present day with the story of the boys’ relationship since elementary school. A disturbing but utterly captivating read. There’s a lot of language, sex and drug use, not to mention violence (so this is definitely for older teens), but you will be sucked into the world, the complex characters and their complex relationships with each other, and leave feeling not uplifted, but very satisfied.
