If he hadn't been a gangster, he might have been honored on a postage stamp, as the Father of Las Vegas. When Benjamin 'Bugsy' Siegel ventured west with some of the Eastern mob's investment funds in the early 1940s, he fell in love with the movies, and a feisty moll named Virginia Hill. Siegel had a vision, which gave rise to an historic plan to transform Las Vegas from a sleepy, sand-choked backwater into an international entertainment Mecca. Nobody shared his vision, but he knew that if he built it, they would come. He built it with other people's money, dangerous people like Meyer Lansky, Moe Green, and Charlie Luciano. While creating this seductive vision, he became so obsessed with it that he was rubbed out before he could see the modern city that sprang from his dream. In their posh Vegas boardrooms, though, the mobsters made out like bandits.

bugsy wasn't only 'an original owner of a casino'. he started vegas!! and it killed him (his ambition, and owing money to meyer lansky, also of the mob). they thought they had him on a leash, yet he was not the leashable kind. but we all die, don't we? some, more violently than others.....Annette bening hits just the right notes, here, and you can never forget who the director is, while you are watching. I found myself wishing that mr. beatty had also made a bio-pic of Jacob Rubenstein.

Warren Beatty is so good as Bugsy Siegel, one of the original owners of a casino in Las Vegas. The town was wide open and trouble was right behind the corner. Busy lived and played hard, and soon he had many enemies. There is so very violent scenes in the movie, so it probably won't be good for young children.
