This book is about a young African American girl. Keanna, that sits between her mother's "knees" every night for her mother to do her hair. The mother put coconut oil in Keanna's hair along her scalp. The mother is very gentle with Keanna's hair when she combs through it, and is really gentle when she gets to places that are especially tangled. Keanna tries not to cry, but sometimes it hurts, and Keanna tells the mother to stop. The mother tells Keanna that she is lucky to have the hair that she has because it is beautiful and she can wear it however she wants. Keanna wears her hair in many different ways from two pony tails to an afro. I would recommend this book because it is about embracing oneself, and one's race. Keanna is proud of her hair and her mother attributes to that. Keanna believes that she can fly with her hair and that nothing can stop her. The book has very elaborate pictures and what I would consider to be an easy read for children.
