This videodisc examines the profound claim that most, if not all, of the so-called 'diseases of affluence' that afflict us can be controlled, or even reversed, by rejecting our present menu of animal-based and processed foods and adopting a whole foods plant-based diet. This film tackles the issue of diet and disease in a way that will have people talking for years.

I love this documentary because it makes an interesting story from scientific facts -- a story which I had seen demonstrated to me by friends and family who were sick and feeling lousy, but then took control of their own health, got off their drugs and now feel better than ever. And that was long before this movie was ever made. Diabetes, Heart Disease, Impotence, Breast, Colon and Prostate Cancer are mostly the result of eating meat, dairy, eggs, oil and processed foods. They are, as Dr. John McDougall often says, "Food Born Illnesses."
.
The information in this movie could solve our health care crisis -- if enough people saw it and had support.

Many people have been talking about the new movie, What the Health and crediting it with profoundly inspiring them and while I did like, What the Health, I still don't think it is as good as, Forks Over Knives.
.

If you haven't seen this documentary, I would encourage you to watch it. There's a great story line about a Cleveland clinic surgeon and world class epidemiologist/biochemist -- both raised on dairy farms, both raised to eat a conventional meat and dairy diet -- only late in life learning that everything that they had been taught about what was healthy to eat was wrong. (After 30 plus years eating only plants, both are in their 80s and still lecturing worldwide.) Their research and publications have helped people around the world who were given up as hopeless by their own doctors. The story is peppered with discussions from the peer-reviewed scientific literature and lots of people sharing their experience of being on drugs with terrible side effects, but still getting worse and worse from diabetes, heart disease and high blood pressure....wishing they had some other alternative and then discovering that good science DID have strong evidence that a whole-food plant based diet could halt and often reverse these diseases.
.

Forks Over Knives is POWERFUL and motivating. Hopefully the library will get What the Health soon too.

Traditional cultures ate mainly meat - esp. the organs that contain high amounts of Saturate Fat! The lean meat was given to the dogs! Factory farming is evil but not the option I suggest! Tribes like the Masai ate blood, milk and meat - no cancer, heart disease etc.

Question any nutrition claims ... "science" is not unbiased! Read The Big Fat Surprise for a detailed account of the how we think Sat. fats are bad and veganism is good. Also The Vegetarian Myth. See http://123EatMeOut.blogspot.ca for more also.

I kept waiting for specifics about exactly what is included on this eating plan.
I eat a lot of plants but have no plans to give up dairy.......

Interesting film about diet and health. Advocates a plant based diet and has enough medical expertise and personal life stories to make it very interesting. We probably all need to clean up our diet and in doing so, easily improve our health.

Disease such as diabetes, heart disease, cancers, and osteoporosis....all with a common link, our diet. This is a revolutionary documentary that you have to watch and make important lifestyle changes to impact your future health.

If there were a single film for making the case for going vegan, this would be it. After watching it 3 years ago, me and my family converted to a vegan diet. Seriously, it was this film, with it's clear, scientific, fact-based argument for a plant-based diet, that convinced me to make the jump from vegetarianism to veganism. Therefore, if anyone asks about going vegan, I would suggest this movie for more information.

This film changed the way I look at food and how I eat! It isn't a propaganda film but a film that tells the truth from two amazing doctors.

I wish more people would watch this and learn. As a physician, I do believe that our diet can prevent many illness (not all). It is deceiving to think that all diabetes, cancer and hypertension can be prevented (as there is genetics involved). However, diet can certainly help. It talked a lot about animal products but not enough about simple sugars, nor how to change the pleasure center.

Even if just half the claims in this film are true, it should jolt us out of our apathy concerning healthy food choices. The film does exaggerates some points a bit, but the essential truth shines brilliantly through. Understandably, these truths can be extremely difficult to swallow for those who have been conditioned their entire lives to believe differently and blindly accept status quos. Anyone that desires to achieve optimum health and approaches this film with an open mind will have their life immeasurably enriched.
