While rival drug cartels warred in the streets, the Columbian national soccer team took a rapid rise to glory, with Andres Escobar its inspirational captain. Meanwhile the infamous drug baron, Pablo Escobar, pioneered "Narco-soccer". After a mistake by Andres led to a loss at the 1994 World Cup, less than ten days later he was gunned down outside a bar, a tragedy documented in this thriller about the intersection of crime and sport.

Once again ESPN rivals PBS on an informative edgy doc (think OJ Simpson) - odd that the real story is the USA creating Saddam Hussein (addiction to oil) and Pablo Escobar (addicted to cocaine) then destroying each one - only to leave another nightmare story behind.

We tend to forget the gruesome Colombian murders of the 80's/90's - probably because they are overshadowed by the 160,000 (and counting) deaths in Mexico. The more things change....

A gripping and insightful account to Colombia's "narco-football" era. This documentary includes interviews with key personalities of the time, stunning visuals and interesting details about all aspects of this topic. I highly recommend it to anyone interested in learning more about the links between politics, crime and sport. It's not just for sports fans!

This film captured the excitement of Columbia's national soccer teams rise to fame. Great interviews with the soccer players who describe the frenzy and even one of Pablos key people who gives their side of how things went down. Economics, power, intimidation, wealth and the craziness of it all.
