A new and unabridged edition of what is arguably the finest Arthurian romance, written by a colourful knight in the late 15th century. This volume presents the Caxton version, with Caxton's preface, romantically illustrated by Anna-Maria Ferguson. The introduction discusses the authenticity of the two different versions as well as the candidates for authorship. However, Matthews bases his opinions on a rather idealised reading of what is still an energetic, robust and thoroughly enjoyable narrative.
