"Sheri S. Tepper takes the mental risks that are the lifeblood of science fiction and all imaginative fiction."
--Ursula K. Le Guin, Los Angeles Times

Her first new novel since The Margarets , The Waters Rising marks the glorious return of the extraordinary Sheri S. Tepper, the award-winning contemporary master whom Locus has called, "one of sf's most distinctive voices." The Waters Rising tells a gripping story of a future already ravaged and now in even graver peril when a dreadful, awesome killing power is resurrected from the past. I used to love Sheri S. Tepper, but this book was very disappointing. As a sequel to A Plague of Angels, which I enjoyed, I had hoped for more than a series of small dramatic incidents that never truly engrossed me and a cast of characters that did not have substance or appeal. I persevered, hoping for a big finish, but it was one dozy moment after another. Even the love story was pale and ultimately uninteresting. The world is well thought out but it takes more than geography and history to pull a reader in.

One of Tepper's lighter, more comic novels. Set on a future Earth where most humans were destroyed by their own technology, the remaining humans and animals will be drowned in several generations as the waters eventually swallow up all the remaining land. Luckily, some have prepared for this eventuality. Highly recommended.
