"The Practical Naturalist", the Audubon book on exploring and observing the natural world is done well. The illustrations are engaging and the text is informative. It is meant as an overview so no specific environment is described. For example, the two page spread called "A Walk in the Woods" has a mixture of photos of plants and animals: some that would be found in North America and others in Europe. Many tips are given as to how to observe the wild including what equipment would be useful. The book begins with the non-living environment: the sky and weather. It then examines what can be observed close to home. Eventually, the book explores the extreme environments of deserts and oceans. Overall, a good book for a naturalist that is entertaining and informative.
