This would be a far more impressive work if the author had more than an beginner's skill in telling a story: he clogs the flow of the narrative with a jumble of information, presented in a haphazard fashion. The characters are cardboard. All the sensual details that bring a tale to life are absent: It's like looking through a telescope at a TV a mile away with the sound off.
Of interest solely for a sociological perspective on Syrian society.
