I agree about the unfinished feeling. The book was very gripping up until the end, but the author left us with little resolution. I found myself annoyed at not having more than guesses as to what caused the Despair which he described in gripping, heart-tugging detail.

Post-apocalyptic sci-fi with a horrific twist. The story is fast-moving and the language is simple and accessible. Several chapters take place in Kansas and the Kansas City metropolitan area. While the ending feels unfinished, I do recommend this title as it's an enjoyable read.
