A Children's Book About Beer?

Yes, believe it or not--but B Is for Beer is also a book for adults, and bear in mind that it's the work of maverick bestselling novelist Tom Robbins, inter-nationally known for his ability to both seriously illuminate and comically entertain.

nce upon a time (right about now) there was a planet (how about this one?) whose inhabitants consumed thirty-six billion gallons of beer each year (it's a fact, you can Google it). Among those affected, each in his or her own way, by all the bubbles, burps, and foam, was a smart, wide-eyed, adventurous kindergartner named Gracie; her distracted mommy; her insensitive dad; her non-conformist uncle; and a magical, butt-kicking intruder from a world within our world.

Populated by the aforementioned characters--and as charming as it may be subversive--B Is for Beer involves readers, young and old, in a surprising, far-reaching investigation into the limits of reality, the transformative powers of children, and, of course, the ultimate meaning of a tall, cold brewski.

Dry ? Couldn't finish it? Oh no those previous comments don't apply to me. I found this to be a wonderful book and can't wait till my granddaughter is old enough for me to read it to her soon.

Robbins can be a terrific writer AND tell a terrific story: see "Another Roadside Attraction" and "Even Cowgirls Get the Blues", and bits and pieces of the novels since those. I have become increasingly disenchanted with him as he keeps repeating himself and tripping over his own cleverness. This book is Robbins at his most precious, and that is a teeth-clenching level for me; couldn't finish it.

Very promising title but the book is dry and boring. Tom Robbins has a great writing style but even the style cannot compensate for the empty content of this book.

If you don't already know, I am a huge Tom Robbins fan. This is his latest work and it may seem like a departure from his earlier stuff but I assure you this is classic Robbins! As far as a children's book about beer goes you couldn't ask for a better tour guide than Mr. Robbins. A great read!
