Beka Cooper, the heroine of Terrier , is no longer a Puppy.

She's a Dog now--a full-fledged member of the Provost's Guard, dedicated to keeping peace in Tortall. But there's unrest throughout land. Counterfeit coins are turning up in shops all over the capital city of Corus, and the nation's economy is on the brink of collapse.

The Dogs discover that the counterfeit money seems to originate in Port Caynn. So Beka heads upriver to investigate, traveling with her mentor, Goodwin; Achoo, a hound whose nose is as sharp as her claws; and the pigeon Slapper, who carries the voices of the dead.

In Port Caynn, Beka delves deep into the gambling world, where she meets a charming banking clerk named Dale Rowan. Beka thinks she may be falling for Rowan, but she won't let anything--or anyone--jeopardize her mission. From the Silversmith's Guild to the Provost's House to the city sewers, it won't be enough for Beka to be her usual Terrier self. She'll have to learn from Achoo how to sniff out the criminals--to be a Bloodhound. . . .

I like this series but I have to say, her romance disappointed me. Dale is not someone I'd expect her to countenance and I found him extremely presumptuous. Given her integrity, her easy acquiescence to his advances seems odd.

I loved the book before and I loved this one. I had no doubts if I would love this book. It was so different from the first one but it was just as good.

Beka Cooper becomes an apprentice "dog" with the nose of a bloodhound in ferreting out criminals in the land of Tortall. A sophisticated, dangerous adventure to read for the older adolescent/teen

2nd in this series, this story was really amazing! I loved it! I'm not really into police-drama/mystery, but Pierce's writing style, her enchanting characters, the suspense and the action really make this a beautiful read!

Two of my favorite genres, police procedural mystery and fantasy, come together in the Beka Cooper series. In this second volume of the trilogy, Beka is now a full-fledged Dog, a member of Tortall's police force. Beka's struggle to find a full-time partner who fits with her intense style of Dog-work is interrupted by the appearance in Corus of a large number of counterfeit coins. Soon, through hard work and a few coincidences, Beka is assigned to the counterfeiting case as well as to the handling of a scent-hound named Achoo. The search leads Beka and her former training Dog Goodwin to Port Caynn where they must play the part of corrupt, lazy Dogs and use all their resources, including Beka's ability to talk to dust spinners and the dead who ride on the backs of pigeons, to uncover who is at the root of the plot.

There's a charming new love interest for Beka and it's nice to get to see her have some fun, but I missed the members of Corus' Court of the Rogue who were introduced to us in the first book (not to mention Pounce!). It will be interesting to see where the third book in the trilogy goes - I actually think Beka could carry an ongoing series, but then I wouldn't get to see what Pierce does with the rest of the Tortall world or her Circle of Magic universe. Really, Pierce just can't write books fast enough for me.

AMAZING BOOK. great characters, (again) questionably okay plot, could be better. But seriously, Beka + Dale = O_o
yeah... she slept with a guy she knew for like a week. Really?

This book was well written. Though I don't like the part where she sleeps with the banker... that got me mad... I really hoped that she would get together with Rosto... The book was great... I can't wait for the third book :D

Yup! Tamora Pierce is an awesome writer. I can't wait until the next book comes out! But I can't believe that it's going to be the last one for this series. T_T
