Depressing, confusing, not a good read during covid times for sure.

Horrible book! I love a good thriller, but this was simply a depressing read with thoroughly unlikeable and depraved characters. When I realized that there could be no reasonable ending for this trainwreck of a story, I just prayed for the last page to come quickly.☹🥱

The story is confusing until about 3/4 s the way through, but the ending still has me confused. I didn't like the story's construction with the 3 different alternating time accounts - the childhood of the two girls, "then", and "now", but after reading the novel I see how that method worked for the author. Of the three accounts I was most interested in the "now" account which is where the suspense mounts. The two female characters are not attractive, personable, or likable. It was fortunate I didn't give up on the novel halfway through as the childhood diary entries, which I flipped through, didn't interest me. It's an odd story, but quite good if you stick with it. The title of the novel had me asking quite a few times as I read it - what are the characters lying about? Probably the novel with its 2 female characters and issues would be more of interest to female readers.

I read this book in a matter of hours. It had a great amount of twists and turns, and really held on to my attention. For a debut, I thought Feeney did an excellent job of spinning the characters' webs, jumping from different time perspectives, and throwing the reader through a loop when you thought you knew what was happening. I'd definitely recommend this book if you like a twisty thriller and a quick read.

Almost as good as Mo Haider, highly recommended. I also read "His and Hers", just as good if not better.

Wow, talk about a head-spinner! At the very beginning you are told the third thing about the protagonist is “sometimes I lie”. I went through the book assuming that some of the narrative was a lie. Then, as Amber reveals what you assume to be truth, you still have to question whether it is authentic.
I ended the book wondering which way the story was supposed to go.

I recommend that you read the book, then once you have fully absorbed the ending, go back and re-read it again. This is more like a psychological thriller. This is the 2nd book by this author that I have read, so I was prepared for twists and turns.

Thrilling original plot; cumbersome delivery. Slow start. Amazing finish!

No one can accuse Alex Feeny, author of SOMETIMES I LIE, of lacking imagination or being unoriginal. The plot is, conceptually, one twisty psychological mind bender, that isn't like anything I've read before. I would love to rate it 5 stars because to me, plot is the single most important factor in what makes a book a great reading experience. This has a 5 star plot that is unfortunately lacking some other key components.

The book is slow for the first 3/4. It feels repetitive, and it didn't really become a true page turning thriller until near the end. When it does start to gain momentum, there is a lot of confusion, as to who is speaking, and what is real and what is imagined by the main character.
She spends most of he story trapped in a coma, trying to make sense of her situation, wih fragmented memories about her past and what events led to her current predicament.

The plot is so clever, that i think in the hands of a more experienced and skillful writer, it could have been extraordinary. I'm not giving up on this author, though. Anybody with a mind that could come up with this plot has stories I don't want to miss.!

I love books that dole out the story little by little from different perspectives, and this book fills that bill. It's twisty, keeps the reader hooked, and pays off at the end. Good stuff!

Wow. Skillfully written, I literally ended the book and immediately went back to reread it with fresh eyes. Very twisty. Loved it!
