The war between humanity and Faerie devastated both sides. Or so 15-year-old Liza has been told. Nothing has been seen or heard from Faerie since, and Liza's world bears the scars of its encounter with magic. Trees move with sinister intention, and the town Liza calls home is surrounded by a forest that threatens to harm all those who wander into it. Then Liza discovers she has the Faerie ability to see--into the past, into the future--and she has no choice but to flee her town. Liza's quest will take her into Faerie and back again, and what she finds along the way may be the key to healing both worlds.

Janni Lee Simner's first novel for young adults is a dark fairy-tale twist on apocalyptic fiction--as familiar as a nightmare, yet altogether unique.

In Bones of Faeries, the worlds of humans and faeries have gone to war, with tragic consequences for both side. Living in a world where electronics and manufacturing have broken down, Liza is unsettled after her father exposes her baby sister soon after birth for bearing signs of magic. After her mother leaves their village, Liza leaves late one night as well.

She discovers others who possess magic, and begins to discover her own gifts. Together with friends, she sets out to save her mother from the wasteland she has ventured into.

Interesting read, bit of a quick read for me. I liked the concept of magic/faerie manifesting in different ways in different people.

I love this book as it combines the gritty survival mentality of Macarthy's "The Road" with old-school fairy magic. It really brings back the horror to the idea of changelings that is missing in modern fantasy.

I actually adored this book. it was so mysterious, i couldn't put it down at all. And apparently a sequel too called Faerie winter, but i don't think i'm gonna read it, i feel like it's gonna ruin this book for me.
