Someone with a lukewarm idea decided to write a self-help book. Confusing, wordy, ideas don't make much sense. There are some great books out there for those suffering from depression/anxiety; don't waste your time with this one.

I heard about this book from Oprah's Super Soul Sunday Podcast. Byron Katie is a spiritual mentor and her book has been incredibly helpful to myself and a friend who have suffered serious personal traumas recently.
Byron Katie espouses the critical need to live in the present moment. She offers a working guide with 4 simple questions to help you do this.
Is it true?
Can I absolutely know it's true?
How do I react when I believe this thought?
Who would I be without the thought?
The one on one interviews demonstrate how this process works with real people and familiar situations.
When applied daily this has helped me to start thinking differently about situations - but you have to do the work honestly with yourself.

This lady is nuts.

Terrible book! I was initially drawn in, thinking I'd read a practical book about the process of maturing and acceptance of life. Instead it's New Age pschyo-babble that could be genuinely hurtful for anyone suffering past trauma - for which the author insists each person is personally responsible, even in the case of childhood sexual abuse. Seriously. She actually tells a survivor of sexual abuse that is was the child's fault. Utterly reprehensible.

This book came recommended but I wouldn't do the same. Interesting to read but the format reads as a "script" from a talk show and is a repetitive narrative so doesn't really go anywhere. Read one chapter you've pretty much read the book.....there are much better books out there to invest time in.

This book is not a substitute for therapy, but its simple method is a great way to help people in mental pain think about their emotions in a different way, and start dealing with them
