The bestselling author of The Areas of My Expertise— also known as The Daily Show’s “Resident Expert” and the PC in the iconic Mac ads—picks up exactly where his first book left off. Exactly. Like its predecessor, MORE INFORMATION THAN YOU REQUIREcompiles incredibly handy made up facts into brief articles, overlong lists, frighteningly complex charts, and beguiling narratives on new and familiar themes such as: THE PAST (because there is always more) THE FUTURE (because they say there is still some left to discuss) THE METHOD BY WHICH WE “ELECT” OUR PRESIDENTS (as this will be happening soon) THE STRANGE OKAPI (an actual animal) GAMBLING: THE SPORT OF THE ASTHMATIC MAN (includes hermit crab racing) HOW TO BE A FAMOUS MINOR TELEVISION PERSONALITY (hint: go on television) PLUS: 700 MOLE-MAN NAMES (and their occupations) Yes. HODGMAN MAY HAVE BEEN BRIEFLY ABSENT FROM YOUR LIFE, but with this volume he is ready to pick up exactly where THE AREAS OF MY EXPERTISEleft off—specifically AT PAGE 237.

Hodgman's sequel to The Areas of My Expertise is just as funny as its predecessor. He perfectly captures the tone (and the effortless shift in narration from first person to second to third) of all of my favorite sources of weird facts from childhood: the Guinness Book of World Records, the Ripley's Believe It or Not feature in the Sunday comics, and their ilk, with the added bonus that all of the facts are fake. Or are they?

It's hard to pick out a quotation to illustrate how amusing this book is in its entirety - the sum is definitely greater than its parts. But here's one example: "Despite the conspiracy theories you may have read, the mole-men have never interbred with the British royal family or the Bush dynasty with the goal of infiltrating the highest reaches of government so as to harvest the blood of our babies to power the spaceliners that will bring them to the next planet they plan to pillage from within. You are thinking of the Belgians."

The page-a-day almanac of fake dates and events are incredibly entertaining, and this was a great read cover to cover. The only place where Hodgman's obsessive-compulsive, stretch-a-joke-to- the-absolute-limit-and-then-beyond approach falls short is the list of 700 mole man names. While I thought the 700 hobo names in TAoME were brilliant, I could have done with about 600 fewer mole men.
