This is a 1937 American romantic musical comedy directed by Busby Berkeley, based on the popular Hollywood Hotel radio show created by gossip columnist Louella Parsons.
All the actors are overacting.
They appear like 3rd-class performers---if not 4th-class ones.
I don't conside it funny at all.
I simply quit viewing halfway through.

GREAT 1937 romantic musical comedy film celebrating (especially the opening scene) the entrance of Benny Goodman Orchestra and swing music into Hollywood film. Another part of the historical transition of music entertainment from vaudeville to Broadway and then moving west to Hollywood film. The film itself has plot elements involving dubbing vocals over the filmed mouthing of non-singing actors.
The film is a bit dated (naturally) but charmingly so.
Also some interesting racial film aspects - like white Benny Goodman and Gene Krupa being combined in a quartet on stage in 1937 with black pianist Teddy Wilson and vibes player Lionel Hampton.
Fun big production numbers with Benny Goodman Band and also Raymond Paige Orchestra doing a great version of Yevhen Hrebinka's famous Russian romance song 'Dark Eyes'.
There lots of fun acting, including Mabel Todd in somewhat over-the-top wacky role as Mona's younger sister Dot.
Surprising (to me), Busby Berkeley doesn't do any of his vertical whack camera antics (which I really enjoy), but is much more restrained - though still great. The set pieces in the Orchid Room at Hollywood Hotel are beautifully filmed - especially that orchid on main stage.
