Marcus, aka w1n5t0n, is only seventeen years old, but he gures he already knows how the system works and how to work the system. Smart, fast, and wise to the ways of the networked world, he has no trouble outwitting his high school s intrusive but clumsy surveillance systems.
But his whole world changes when he and his friends nd themselves caught in the aftermath of a major terrorist attack on San Francisco. In the wrong place at the wrong time, Marcus and his crew are apprehended by the Department of Homeland Security and whisked away to a secret prison, where they re mercilessly interrogated for days. When the DHS nally releases them, Marcus discovers that his city has become a police state, where every citizen is treated like a potential terrorist. He knows that no one will believe his story, which leaves him only one option: to take down the DHS himself.
Can one teenage hacker ght back against a government out of control? Maybe, but only if he s really careful . . . and very, very smart."

Without intending to he also wrote a warning strory; not just the paise of hacking and privacy using cryptography. The prisoners of Inland Security are forced to pay bale and to go on trial of the crimes that the IS accused them of. Accusation implies that they are under arrest. IS (and other secret police;past, present, and future) only detain suspects: no need for warrants issued by a judge or other bothersome legalities. They can detain (remember, no arrest!) for as long as they wish. Who can they detain? Any suspected terrorist: anybody they say might be one or that any concerned citizen tells them is one. Since legally that person is no longer a legal person they can be detained and tortured for as long as desired. This is not fiction, happening now, apparently in small numbers and offshore (Guantanamo Bay?). For more infor mation on the practice of torture read "The Gulag Archipeligo" and some more recent non-fiction in the OPL system. P.S. They powers of the IS might still be available online: Anti-terrorism Act I believe it's called.
