I don't think one or two funny lines make a movie a "comedy". Too many unbelievable plot twists, and the dialogue felt stilted. The only part I really liked was when Colin Firth was cuddling Helen Hunt in his children's bedroom. That looked very genuine and loving, with excellent chemistry between the two. It was easy to believe they had just been intimate (in another room, not in front of the children!) and were falling in love. But although parts of the movie had merit, on the whole it was clunky and not worth two hours of my life.

Really intrigued by this story of acceptance and redemption - rare look at family for grown ups. Story felt "compressed"- maybe due to financial constraints?HH intense, stressed look matched her character well - but I wish the story had addressed how unhelpful & unhealthful that "lifestyle" is in relationships. CF & BM are as wonderful as expected - funny poignant magnetic. MB seemed miscast.

The movie started out with potential but I lost interest half way through. The storyline seemed disjointed and the overall mood was depressing. I get that Helen Hunt's character was a woman in crisis. But it was difficult to connect to her or any of the other characters.

Sorry, couldn't stay the course. Ms Hunt looks 49 not 39, Mr Firth is just collecting a paycheck. You will be better off channel surfing than watching this.

A surprisingly depressing look into the life of one women in a series of crises.
This was said to be a comedy but there was nothing remotely amusing about this movie. Helen Hunt does a good job directing herself but always seems to look angry. May be at the poor script and writing.

A dumb contrived movie made to give not very good actors something to do - at least that was my take. I watched the whole thing and found it corny and very lacking in any redeeming value.

The package reads "A beauty of a movie, Hillarious!" "A fine unpredictable comedy" "Smart engaging and funny" Believe me, it is none of the above. I begins with the star, a Meryl Streep look-alike who is 39 and recently married. She want's to have a baby. She and hubby are visiting her mother in a care home. Mother tells her "Adopt" She says she wants her own baby. Mother reminds her that she adopted, that star's elder brother is an adoptee. \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ Hubby tells star "I mad a mistake" Star says get out! \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ Hubby starts bunking on the couvh with two 20 year olds, maybed collecge student of his? \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ Hubby is in bed with both 20's. The two 20's kiss. That's the first 15 minutes. I went back to galaxy music on Shaw. If anyone can see anything even slightly funny in the above, you must have an eagles eye

Maybe as a tear jerker it's good.
I dunno.
But tear jerkers aren't what I look
for in a movie.
I want to see relaxation, fun
7 brides for 7 brothers,
ok it's nonsense,
but that's what I want.
Unfortunately, someone who
would enjoy this movie,
who wants the interaction of
people in stressful inter-personal
situaltions,
CAN'T FIND IT because the
cover is so misleeading.

This is a romantic comedy trying to be deeper than the usual romantic comedy--which is a fine objective except that the result is something that feels a bit stilted much of the time. Other times the movie lapses into sitcom fare--especially in sex scenes--thus shifting the mood too abruptly. I liked the fact that the characters come across as real folks and not products of Hollywood, although at times they seem depressed and lifeless. Still, a different take on the genre, and all in all an improvement.

Rather quirky. Hard to say whether it is good, but has some decent humour at points, and also some interesting ways to think about restitution and redemption.
