As Nazi forces encroach on his small village in Belorussia, teenage Flyora eagerly joins the Soviet resistance. Rather than the adventure and glory he envisioned, what he finds is a waking nightmare of unimaginable carnage and cruelty. Nearly blocked from being made by Soviet censors, who took seven years to approve its script, is perhaps the most visceral, impossible-to-forget antiwar film ever made.

As a viewer of the life of a young boy who loses his family and is caught up in the chaos and brutality of WWII in Belorussia, I began to feel some of the surrealism experienced by the boy. I am normally a huge fan of WWII films, but thought this movie could have used some editing. Still an excellent depiction of the confusion and terror of war especially for such a young boy. A war movie told from the point of view of a young Belorussian boy. It graphically portrays the atrocities carried out by German troops against the civilian population. Unrelentingly tragic and grim it is perhaps the greatest war movie ever made. A true masterpiece.

I watched this movie when it first came out... And let me tell you that it was one of the most harrowing films I have ever seen to this day... I have it on hold now yet have doubts I will dare to watch it again - borrowing for my partner to watch it...

An anti-war masterpiece, a singular work of bleak poetry, and senses-shattering and spiritually upsetting experience. Come and See is a timeless masterpiece of cinema at its most astonishing and all encompassing.

A stretched out but otherwise well done documentary like movie about the inhuman horrors in Belarus, 1943. The facial expressions are impressive and tearing at your soul.

I was warned about this film , so I should pass the warning too. This is not a entertaining movie . You would feel sad ,bleak in the end . And if you are like me and got curious about certain aspects of the movie and the history related ,it gets worse. I would consider this very close to being a anti- war movie.

Quite possibly the worst movie I have ever forced myself to watch. It may have been good when it was made but it has not aged well at all

A Russian film that is beautifully executed with an accurate portrayal of history. Few foreign films have moved me more than "Come and See"! Hopefully, more great war films are yet to be made of this caliber.
P.S. Unfortunately as of today, 11/18/19, their are 26 holds on only one dvd copy in the KCLS. It would be worth the wait though!

Timeless and sublime masterpiece of film making. Ignore the critique below which pans this movie. To borrow from the bible, "Forgive them lord for they know not..." I suspect the problem lies in the "hero" mentality of American war films which are filled with blood, guts and glory and a sense of righteousness. I would recommend some research into soviet made films particularly regards WWII. There are more treasures out there.

This movie's title is derived from The Bible's New Testament. It is from Chapter 6 in the Book of Revelation (aka The Apocalypse of John aka The Revelation of St John the Divine aka The Revelation of St John). It reads: "And when he had opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth beast say, Come and see. And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on was Death, and Hell followed with him. And power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword, and with hunger, and with death, and with the beasts of the earth."
The author J.G Ballard called it " one of the greatest war film ever made "
Stunning in its rawness and expressiveness.
A MUST SEE !
