An Amazon Charts bestseller.

In the shadows of World War II, trust becomes the greatest risk of all for two strangers.

December 1943. In the years before the rise of Hitler, the Gerber family's summer cottage was filled with laughter. Now, as deep drifts of snow blanket the Black Forest, German dissenter Franka Gerber is alone and hopeless. Fervor and brutality have swept through her homeland, taking away both her father and her brother and leaving her with no reason to live.

That is, until she discovers an unconscious airman lying in the snow wearing a Luftwaffe uniform, his parachute flapping in the wind. Unwilling to let him die, Franka takes him to her family's isolated cabin despite her hatred for the regime he represents. But when it turns out that he is not who he seems, Franka begins a race against time to unravel the mystery of the airman's true identity. Their tenuous bond becomes as inseparable as it is dangerous. Hunted by the Gestapo, can they trust each other enough to join forces on a mission that could change the face of the war and their own lives forever?

I loved this book. The author keeps the exact pace and also the conversations are believable. I will be reading another book by him soon.

Pretty good story of German anti Nazi woman who is intending suicide in the bitter cold of the Black Forest but discovered the injured body of a man in luftwaffe uniform. She rescues the man who turns out to be a spy from the US on a mission to help the man escape who is working on developing the nuclear bomb. She kills the gestapo officer who is her ex boyfriend when he tries to rape her and becomes an top enemy of the Reich. She and the American end up saving each other as the barely make it acros. The border into Switzerland.

Franka Gerber is at her wits end, it seems, as she snow shoes through the woods surrounding her family’s Black Forest summer cottage in the midst of WW II. Then, she comes upon a wounded German paratrooper. What to do? Her own misgivings about the Nazi regime put Franka into conflict.

I’m such a pushover for historic fiction based on true stories, but this one doesn’t add much to the WW II story canon. Does the author hope for movie rights? Seems that kind of story. Beautiful setting. Good guys vs. bad guys. Chase scene. A little romance. Too full of clichés for me.

Really enjoyed this book, some history, some intrigue, some romance and good characters. It is kind of a predictable story but I would recommend it.

Light historical fiction which was simple and predictable. No depth to the characters. Gives a cliché view of WWII. Was able to finish it, but can’t really recommend it.
