This is possibly the best comic book graphic novel I've ever read. The artwork is maybe A- grade in quality at first glance, but if you slow down to truly appreciate it, you'll notice subtlety and nuance in the way people are depicted that deeply humanizes them (or dehumanizes them, in some cases). Some of the art panels complement this author's message absolutely perfectly.

The writing is philosophical, provocative, funny, at times gutwrenching, and this book is really a masterpiece of this medium. I DO recommend trying to read this series in sequence though (there's 12 volumes)... This book here is the peak of comic book excellence.

Brian Wood's fourth installment of DMZ is more of the same - excellent storytelling and amazing artwork. Friendly Fire describes the event that essentially left Manhattan as the DMZ. There are two sides to every story, and Wood has our protagonist, Matty, stay true to his impartial journalistic roots, while still giving him a voice of his own. DMZ reamins at its best with more to come.
