Across America a mysterious disease is turning ordinary people into raving, paranoid murderers who inflict brutal horrors on strangers, themselves, and even their own families.

Working under the government's shroud of secrecy, CIA operative Dew Phillips crisscrosses the country trying in vain to capture a live victim. With only decomposing corpses for clues, CDC epidemiologist Margaret Montoya races to analyze the science behind this deadly contagion. She discovers that these killers all have one thing in common - they've been contaminated by a bioengineered parasite, shaped by a complexity far beyond the limits of known science.

Meanwhile Perry Dawsey - a hulking former football star now resigned to life as a cubicle-bound desk jockey - awakens one morning to find several mysterious welts growing on his body. Soon Perry finds himself acting and thinking strangely, hearing voices . . . he is infected.

The fate of the human race may well depend on the bloody war Perry must wage with his own body, because the parasites want something from him, something that goes beyond mere murder.

Wow! I had a feeling I'd read this before (now I see I did read it 2 years ago), but I kept going because it's so horrifyingly captivating. Sure, the premise is quite literally out of this world, but it's a fast, terrifying read. Very good for this hot spell in our usually temperate summer. Quite gory. Very gory. Ok, totally gross sections that made me wince, but still. . .

I'm a horror/sci-fi addict and read a minimum of 2 books a week. Although I enjoy what I read, being so saturated in the genre makes it challenging to find anything new & exciting - that is until I read Infected! I found myself engrossed and unable to put this book down from beginning to end and ended up finishing it in a day and a half. This is the first I've read from Scott Sigler, but it definitely won't be the last. He has the ability to grab your attention with the first page and simply doesn't let go until the end! Excellent book! It does have some graphic violence & use of the f word if you're sensitive to either of those, but both fit right in with the plot and characters. Can't say it enough - fantastic book that I was sad to have come to an end. He's a very talented writer.

4 adults listened on the way back from Florida - everyone was eager to listen to more. Personally, I found it graphic and parts were disturbing, but a wonderful, engaging story line. The scenes of graphic self-mutilation were not out of place in the story line and were used as character development.

Put a hold on the second part first opportunity....

I disagree with Syrax. Fans of S.K. are not interested in extremely graphic violence and self-mutilation (and self-immolation).

Very good novel indeed. Should appeal to fans of Stephen King's. The author seems to have captured King's ability to probe the psyche of people with diminishing sanity.
Enjoyed it very much.
