It's 1962 and change is in the air in Baltimore. Tracy Turnblad, a girl with big hair and big dreams, has only one passion in life - to dance on The Corny Collins Show. When her chance arrives, she grooves her way into instant stardom and the eyes of teen-dream Link Larkin (Zac Efron). But with the program's scheming stage manager (Michelle Pfeiffer) against her, trend-setting Tracy will need the help of her best friend Penny (Amanda Bynes), her bighearted mother (John Travolta) and sassy co-host Motormouth Maybelle (Queen Latifah) to show the world that all it takes to make a dream come true is a toe-tappin' beat and a little Hairspray

Set in 1960's Baltimore, teen Tracy Turnblad, auditions for "The Corny Collins Show" and makes it on as one of the dancers. Because of her larger size, making it onto a show full of rich, thin, and beautiful white people, she becomes an overnight sensation. This then raises the question of why it is that only certain people can be famous and on TV, and especially why can't black people be on TV alongside white people? This movie combines singing, dancing, performance, humor, and justice into a movie that is not only entertaining but also informative about the events that took place socially in 1960's America.

Hairspray is an incredibly funny, cute, and quirky musical with a very strong and powerful message about equality. Set in the sixties, this film follows the story of Tracy Turnblad, a brave and confident high school girl with big dreams who has a passion for dancing and won’t hesitate to stand up for what is right. This movie has tons of big stars such as Zac Efron, Amanda Bynes, John Travolta, and Christopher Walken. The fun, upbeat soundtrack is super catchy and there’s no doubt you’ll find yourself singing along. Not to mention, this wonderful movie was filmed right here in Toronto and Hamilton!

Wow, so many haters. This is my favorite musical movie of all time. I adore most of the songs, especially Without Love, and Tracy, Seaweed, and Penny are so cool. I can watch this over and over again,

The movie didn't include all the songs from the original musical in which is too bad. Wonderful wonderful performances of John Travolta as Edna and seductive sexy performance of Michelle Pfeiffer as Velma Von Tussle. I still think the original Broadway show is better.

Stick with John Waters' version. Ricky Lake made a better Tracy Turnblad and Divine outshone Travolta as Tracy's mother. I say, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

An OK film, fairly well done, though it did get boring and almost abnocious at points.
I guess the biggest reason that I was interested in it is that it was filmed less that a block from my house, but I guess it was pretty good film.
