I'll try to keep this long story short, but it's maybe the best example of how any new music ends up in my lap these days: indirectly and because everything in the universe is connected.

It started when my friend Frank told me about Radiooooo a couple years ago. If you're not obsessed with it right away, you will be. The site has some of the best graphics I've seen in a long time and literally takes you back in time in the best way possible, through music from every continent (the five Os in the project's name are a geographical hat-tip, BTW.)

Fast forward to January 2019 and me hoarding the library's travel guides to Paris. I stumbled upon "In Paris: Twenty Women on Life in the City of Light" by current Parisian it-girl, Jeanne Damas (checked out from LPL.) I read every bio and mourned a life not lived among these women. I studied where they went and what they thought about the world and marked every arrondissement and local hangout on Google Maps for my trip. Then two obsessions collided mid-way through the book when I read Noemi Ferst's interview. I didn't know who she was either until she mentioned starting a music site called Radiooo with her husband — she does all the artwork while he curates content — and I became Confused Math Lady meme for 120 seconds and then Dillion Francis for several months because I was about to go off.

Google searched Noemi Ferst. Oh, she did cover work for some French band. Googled Polo & Pan. Paid for ad-free YouTube Music. Listened on loop while getting tattooed one block from the Moulin Rouge. Listened as I walked Montmartre. As I watched the world wake up for 10 days from our balcony at 1 Rue des Trois Frères. As I walked three miles for a Wheatfields croissant once I got home. As Notre Dame burned live on my split screen at work knowing I was one of the last to ever enter that cathedral. As my son and I navigated meeting each other after his adoption 26 years ago. As my son prepared dinner for me for the first time.

"Caravelle" by Polo & Pan is 2019 for me. I have played it non-stop for nearly 9 months and thankfully, you can too. My colleague Kevin and I are secret francophiles who email on and off about wanting to move there. The plan is for his wife to be the bread-winner while we look for jobs. I'm gonna live in their attic (she doesn't know this yet.) Kevin curates the library's music collection. Kevin bought it because I wouldn't shut up about it. Turns out he's a fan now, too. Merci bien, Kevin.
