Shortly after being imprisoned by the Magical Congress of the USA, dark magician Gellert Grindelwald has broken free. As soon as he escapes, Grindelwald starts building a powerful army of wizards who want nothing short of the complete enslavement of the human race. To combat Grindelwald's efforts, Professor Albus Dumbledore calls on the wizard responsible for putting Grindelwald away in the first place: Newt Scamander. Throughout his journeys, Scamander will travel through Paris, London, and New York City, always on the lookout for Grindelwald and his legions of followers. Scamander's mission will put his skills as a wizard to the ultimate test.

Good except for casting actors who are way too old for this (Queenie) type of film. But then casting in the original Harry Potters was off as well (Hermoine was supposed to be an ugly duckling). The ending of this Fantastic Beasts was not clear to me. Who was Credence's father/mother? I didn't get the shipwreck connection. Still I liked this movie.

The story itself seem to be an afterthought on Ms. Rowling's part, not quite up to par with her Harry Potter stories. The film is visually stunning, but there are long filler scenes which dragged the pace down, if indeed there was a pace to this. I'm sure WB will cash in on another sequel, because they can. Or can they??

Seen as Fantastic Beasts series, excellent movie, very watchable.
Great acting and creatures.
Not incredible Harry Potter movie, where we follow from a child to truly mature adult.

The film is following the same old themes of Harry Potter (but with creatures added in) and it feels like I'm seeing the same thing over and over again. The film was made to have a sequel on purpose and ends abruptly. If you are a die-hard Harry Potter fan and can never get enough of the same thing every year this is a film for you. If you want something new or don't like films that you can predict the next scene - skip this film.

Worse than part 1, and that's saying something, because that one was also a load of bollocks. Don't waste your time on these clunkers. They don't make any sense, and are just ruining what is, otherwise, perfect.

I can't believe Depp has weaseled his way into this series. Even with him it was okay.

What a fun film. Beautiful to look at and so imaginative. I thought I was done with Johnny Depp but he was really great and the world drew me in with a young Dumbledore and the back story to Credence who I admit I don’t really know who he is in the story arc.
Just enjoy the magic.

This is more like Part 1 of the dark wizard Grindelwald (Johnny Depp) Trilogy. Understand that the pundits panned this film because of overly stuffed subplots (not in mho with over 2 hours of ample screen time) but no denying the fantastic CGI beasts/actions and lush set/costume designs (see special feature: Le Ministère des Affaires Magiques: the French Ministry.) As in the first "Fantastic Beasts," turn on the subtitles as Eddie Redmayne (Newt Scamander) still talked too softly and mumbles through tight-lipped some of his lines.

.
This one continues sapping all the energy and fun out of the Potter universe until the second half when Johnny Depp's plan begins to take shape.

It was okay. I enjoyed the first movie, and I hoped that this movie would show another side to the wizarding world in France like the first did to New York. Not so much. There were parts that I really enjoyed, but the scenes in the trailer that I thought were going to be epic weren't. There were also A LOT of inconsistencies in the timeline and facts from the Harry Potter books/movies. There are people the shouldn't be born yet that are adults, there are family lineages that don't make any sense, and so much more. I paid to see it in theathers, but if I knew how it was going to turn out, I wouldn't have spent the money. Hopefully, they do better with the next movie.

Looks like HP fans have posted 44 quotes in IMDb already. One of my favorite which is from the trailer and not the film itself:

Gellert Grindelwald: My brothers... my sisters. The clock is ticking faster. My dream, we who live, for truth, for love. The moment has come, to take our rightful place... in the world, where we wizards... are free. Join me... or die.

Closest to the above quote in the film (not in IMDb is:)
Gellert Grindelwald: My brother, my sister, my friends ... an honor to bring victory for you, not for me. Because this is for you. We are gathered here not to mourn. And science long no longer apply to us. We're here today to look forward to something new. Something different. ... Oh, for what this world is created for us ... all who want freedom. For the truth. And to love.

The funniest is:
Queenie Goldstein: You see, I can't tell if you're making a joke or if you're just... French.
