If you're seeking subtlety in your teen fantasy/dystopias, look elsewhere, because this story of a country divided by a border, with wealth and privilege on one side and poverty and desperation (which fuels illegal immigration) on the other, is not subtle. What it is, however, is incredibly timely, feminist, fast-paced, and intriguing, with a twisty-turny plot and a really cool, Latin American-inspired world. It's the first in a duology, so you'll be unsurprised to discover it ends without much being resolved, but I will be eagerly awaiting book #2.
