Trauma Stewardship
An Everyday Guide to Caring for Self While Caring for Others
Book - 2009
A longtime trauma worker, Laura van Dernoot Lipsky offers a deep and empathetic survey of the often-unrecognized toll taken on those working to make the world a better place. We may feel tired, cynical, or numb or like we can never do enough. These, and other symptoms, affect us individually and collectively, sapping the energy and effectiveness we so desperately need if we are to benefit humankind, other living things, and the planet itself. In Trauma Stewardship , we are called to meet these challenges in an intentional way-to keep from becoming overwhelmed by developing a quality of mindful presence. Joining the wisdom of ancient cultural traditions with modern psychological research, Lipsky offers a variety of simple and profound practices that will allow us to remake ourselves-and ultimately the world.

Add a CommentAs there are currently 16 hold requests on 2 Library copies of this crucial life and work skills book. Is it possible that the Library can purchase mire copies of this book? It's so very much needed by many of us who work in public service and community service. We need this book for self-care of vicarious trauma while caring for others coping with traumatic experiences.
I'd like to request that the Library buy more copies to meet this demand.
Thank you for your consideration!
I had the opportunity to listen to the author speak and was very impressed with (1) her ability to identify the very subtle and specific things service workers do to cope with the stress of helping others that are actually destructive rather than helpful, and (2) the concrete and practical tips she offers for getting out of this difficult frame of mind and body.
