This movie is based on a real life story about a young African American police officer who, with the assistance of a colleague, is successfully able to infiltrate the Klu Klux Klan in the 1970's. The movie is riveting, with outstanding performances, lots of suspense, loads of humour and lots of 1970's fun. The movie also puts hate and racism front and centre. As I was watching, I was thinking, "if this movie was made 25 years ago it would have been starring Denzel Washington" and "wow that guy playing the lead sure reminds me of a young Denzel Washington" only to find out afterwards that the lead actor is Denzel Washington's son! Overall I thought this movie is excellent in every way. Highly recommended.

Powerful, well-constructed movie. The bonus material featuring the real Ron Stallworth was an unexpected treat.

Absolutely riveting! Skillfully combined comedy with a serious subject matter. Adam Driver was just the best! If you haven't seen this movie yet, run, run, run to see it!

I wish they would have shown the "real photo" of the real police officer with Duke tee hee well acted and of course the great Mr. Lee

Adam Driver should have won an Academy Award for best supporting actor. He played a role on both sides of this racial movie. It's just awful there is so much hate generated by the KKK and White Supremacists against Jews and blacks.

A great story portrayed on film... if you're looking for the real life story that this interpretation is representing, by all means please research the real life story of Ron Stallworth, who wrote the book about the subject matter that the film is portraying. "Although this motion picture is based on a true story, some of the material has been fictionalized." It's a movie. This scares people who would love others to not even know about Ron Stallworth.

At turns harrowing and hilarious, this movie highlights the glacial pace the normalization of race relations continues to take in the U.S. Spike Lee's art may be a bit hyperbolic and ironic at times, but his lens is unique, his credibility is real, and his voice deserves to be heard, perhaps now more than ever.

When I retrieved this item from the library, I had no idea of what the premise was. Since Jordan Peele was involved, I thought it would be about a black man who joins the Klan for two reasons - he hates other blacks and wants to get ahead in white America. Sorree! This is a Spike Lee joint (my bad!) - which means he takes serious topics and trivializes them. The very idea of using two people to impersonate one and infiltrate an organization long past it's prime is sub-moronic.
I guess Lee wanted to capitalize on the Charlottesville rally by a bunch of decrepit Klansters in order to show his black cred.

Yes, Spike Lee is heavy handed and not at all subtle. And the screenplay does play with the "facts" of the real story. However, this nation needs a brick dropped on its head in regard to racism, and this movie delivers. In contrast to Green Book, which aside from its misogynistic and homophobic slant, puts a stamp of heroism on a white man's friendship with a black artist (a friendship that in real life never happened, as verified by Don Shirley's son), Spike Lee's film isn't whitewashed, and was much more Oscar-worthy.

Wow! Should have won best picture. It was a remarkable film so brilliantly witty and ironic.

Ron Stallworth: Hello, this is Ron Stallworth calling. Who am I speaking with?

David Duke: This is David Duke.

Ron Stallworth: The Grand Wizard of the Ku Klux Klan, *that* David Duke?

David Duke: The last time I checked. What can I do you for?

Ron Stallworth: Well, since you asked, I hate n***ers, I hate Jews. Spics and micks. Italians and chinks. But my mouth to God's ears, I really hate those black rats, and anyone else really that doesn't have pure white Aryan blood running through their veins!

David Duke: I'm happy to be talking to a true white American.

Ron Stallworth: God bless white America.
