A New York Times bestseller!

Return to Harlem's "wildly entertaining" family in this funny, heartwarming sequel. When catastrophe strikes their beloved upstairs neighbors, the Vanderbeeker children set out to build the best, most magical healing garden in Harlem--in spite of a locked fence, thistles and trash, and the conflicting plans of a wealthy real estate developer.

While Isa is off at sleepaway orchestra camp, Jessie, Oliver, Hyacinth, and Laney are stuck at home in the brownstone with nothing to do but get on one another's nerves. But when catastrophe strikes their beloved upstairs neighbor, their sleepy summer transforms in an instant as the Vanderbeeker children band together to do what they do best: make a plan. They will create the most magical healing garden in all of Harlem.

In this companion to The Vanderbeekers of 141st Street, experience the warmth of a family and their community as they work together to bring a little more beauty and kindness to the world, one thwarted plan at a time.

I love this family and series! I enjoyed “meeting” this family as much as I did The Cason Family from author Hilary McKay.

Love this book sm!😄 The Vanderbeeker series is easily my absolute favorite (non fantasy) book series I’ve ever read. The author clearly worked very hard to create fully developed, relatable characters, and the story is a masterpiece. The illustrations are amazing.😊 Great for ages six, to six hundred.👍

Our family enjoyed this book even more than the first one. A close family and community with children who "get it" on how to be kind and think outside of themselves. How refreshing! We can't wait for the 3rd book.

I am an adult, and I love the Vanderbeekers! In this second book, the family’s beloved neighbors, Miss Josie and Mr. Jeet, are suffering when Mr. Jeet has a stroke and is hospitalized for an extended period. The Vanderbeeker children want to do something special to make their dear friends feel better. They decide (in secret) to clean up a walled off overgrown jungle next to the local church to create a community garden, where Miss Josie and Mr. Jeet can go to enjoy nature after Mr. Jeet comes home from the hospital. If you love gardening, there is a lot to love in this book! All sorts of adventures ensue, including a battle with a real estate developer. Historic preservation plays a major role in this book. And the story of the Vanderbeeker children visiting Mr. Jeet in the hospital with their bunny taken along (hidden in a picnic basket) is priceless!

The children are quirky and fun, and the stories illustrate important principles of urban planning. I look forward to more sequels!

Cicero said, "If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need." Hence if you have a book about a garden, you have a more than satifsying sequel to The Vanderbeekers on 141st Street. In this garden-themed second installment, oldest twin Jessie is in the spotlight while Isa is away at music camp. There is plenty of love for family, neighbors, pets and plants to go around. Get a copy of this book ASAP so you, too, can immerse yourself in the world of the Vanderbeekers!

This is the 2nd book in the Vanderbeekers series and a great addition to the series. In this quirky and heartfelt book, the Vanderbeekers are determined to build a magnificent healing garden for their neighbors.
