Move over, Charlotte Brontë. The authors of the New York Times bestselling My Lady Jane are back with an irreverent spin on Jane Eyre--a tale of mischief, romance, and supernatural mayhem perfect for fans of The Princess Bride or A Gentleman's Guide to Vice and Virtue.

You may think you know the story. Penniless orphan Jane Eyre begins a new life as a governess at Thornfield Hall, where she meets one dark, brooding Mr. Rochester--and, Reader, she marries him. Or does she?

Prepare for an adventure of Gothic proportions, in which all is not as it seems, a certain gentleman is hiding more than skeletons in his closets, and one orphan Jane Eyre, aspiring author Charlotte Bronte, and supernatural investigator Alexander Blackwood are about to be drawn together on the most epic ghost hunt this side of Wuthering Heights.

Though the original is still my favorite, I enjoyed this adaption because of the supernatural elements incorporated into it, as well as the light tone and modern movie lines.

It was fun. The plot was fast-paced, but instead of enjoying it, it made it feel rushed. Jane's story kind of gets pushed to the side, and we really don't get know her as a character. I liked Charlotte and the ghost-hunters, but I felt that it didn't mesh that well with the characters. I kept waiting for the book to slow down and incorporate all the elements better, and for us to get to know the characters but it didn't. It was quite funny and the references to Jane Eyre were enjoyable. I would recommend reading Jane Eyre before reading this. Then again, you might like My Plain Jane better if you're not focusing on the Jane subplot and how it relates to the original. Enjoyable, but not something I would re-read or recommend.

Cute take on some of famous fictional characters we know. It wasn't scary, just goofy. But entertaining.

I thought My Lady Jane was hilarious, and this follow-up by the same authors, giving Jane Eyre a thorough reimagining, was really fun, too. It is definitely a case where, just as My Lady Jane was best enjoyed by people who knew at least some Tudor history, this is probably going to be appreciated most by fans of (or people who love to hate) Jane Eyre, but for that audience, this is fun and funny, and I’d recommend reading Lyndsay Faye’s Jane Steele (a totally genius reimagining of Jane Eyre where Jane is a serial killer) next.

Have you ever felt torn between reading Jane Eyre or watching Ghostbusters? If so this book is for you. My Plain Jane is an entertaining mash-up of history and the supernatural by way of Monty Python.

If you enjoy absurd humor and strong female protagonists this book is for you. The most surprising thing was how much it made me want to pick up the original for comparison. Great way to convince people to read the classics.

We all thought we knew the story of Jane Eyre, but we were missing quite a few important details. There were ghosts, and possessions, people we thought died actually lived, and we did not know the couples as they actually were. My Plain Jane gives us a different story of Jane Eyre. Keep an eye out for Lady Jane Grey and her husband from book one, My Lady Jane!

A Great Books for Great Kids pick. A humorous retelling of the story of Jane Eyre with an epic ghost hunt. Grades 7 and up.

I loved this book. The retelling of the story was amazing. I could not put it down. I laughed out loud several times while reading this book. If you like Jane Eyre and ghosts you should read it.

I love Jane Eyre, so I was a little scared that this retelling would harm my view of it. I'm pleased to say it was a fun book that kept me reading, and I still love the original.

The Lady Janies series continues with another quality contribution. In this book we are graced with a retelling of Jane Eyre. Since that classic is so revered, it makes sense to swing the pendulum in entirely a different direction and make it a ghost story with modern movie quotes and a mix of fictional and historical characters. Well done. I am looking forward to the third and final installment featuring our very own Calamity Jane!
