Agreeing to go to a wedding with a guy she gets stuck with in an elevator is something Alexa Monroe wouldn't normally do. But there's something about Drew Nichols that's too hard to resist.

On the eve of his ex's wedding festivities, Drew is minus a plus one. Until a power outage strands him with the perfect candidate for a fake girlfriend...

After Alexa and Drew have more fun than they ever thought possible, Drew has to fly back to Los Angeles and his job as a pediatric surgeon, and Alexa heads home to Berkeley, where she's the mayor's chief of staff. Too bad they can't stop thinking about the other...

They're just two high-powered professionals on a collision course toward the long distance dating disaster of the century--or closing the gap between what they think they need and what they truly want...

Shut Up and Take My Money: Fancasting My Favorite Rom-Com Reads

Like many people, I love a good romantic comedy. I’m always in the mood for a meet-cute, a tale-of-friends-to-lovers, a happily-ever-after (or at least for now). Luckily, as a reader of romance, I usually have a stack of rom-coms sitting on my bedside table. The only downside to my rom-com reading habit is that I would also like to watch many of these stories, and unfortunately, Hollywood… (more)

Adorable! Great chemistry between the leads, and I liked that they both had other things going in their lives than one another. As in many books, the main conflict could have been resolved with a single honest conversation, but the author did a pretty good job of making it believable that the lea... Read More »

I thought the initial wedding date was a cute intro, but then the story continues to repeat the same scene seemingly over and over. The small things the main duo fights over are really idiotic and not worth writing a book about.

little to no chemistry. The wedding (arguably the best part) is done within the first hundred pages. The main characters have sex, fight, have make up sex, repeat. Drew is an asshole and his perspective really wrecks his character 99% of the time. Alexa is an insecure mess. All of their problems could’ve been solved with some simple communication.

Cute story, but too drawn out for an entire book. I got bored in several parts, thinking, this again?

A light-hearted and entertaining book about a fake date between Alexa and Drew. Their attraction keeps drawing them together until they realize they may just have a real relationship...

I actually enjoyed this book! It didn't take you "around the world" to get to the point. I enjoyed the sweet yet "hey this couldn't possibly happen" love story of Alexa and Drew.

This was just okay. It’s a easy read that moves quick. The issue with her sister was overly dramatic and the reasoning for her program were questionable. The main character eats terribly which is an odd comment but seriously it’s noticeable!

A meet-cute encounter that leads to a great contemporary romantic page-turner.

I thought it was boring and very predictable. I'm so tired of the heroine in these types of novels being so, 'woe is me, I'm so homely. A hot guy like him couldn't possibly want a mess like me! Blah, blah, blah...'. Hooey.

A chance meeting in an elevator thrusts two strangers together for a weekend wedding and both parties end up with much more than they bargained for.

It's unfortunate that the presence of strong profane language dominates the story and takes away from what should be a meet cute turned extended relationship.

This book has possibly the most straightforward, least twisty plot of any romantic comedy I've ever read -- and yet it's still one of the most enjoyable books I've read all year, which is a testament to how good Jasmine Guillory is at other, non-plotty things. Listen, this is just flat-out fun -- a meet cute in an elevator leads to the heroine going to a wedding with the hero as his fake girlfriend; sexy times ensue; they catch feelings; all ends, eventually, happily. And it's DELIGHTFUL. The fact that the heroine is black and the hero is white adds an extra layer of interest to this, and leads to some really interesting conversations between them as he struggles to understand her lived experience and some of the ways he needs to check his privilege, but beyond all of that good stuff, the fact remains that if you want to read something romantic and charming that will leave you with a smile on your face, you need look no further.

Sexual Content: Book contains sex scenes between two adults. The sex between the two leads is pretty vanilla and is vaguely written. Readers of other romances won't find anything too distressing.

Sexual Content: There are a lot of distasteful sex scenes.

Coarse Language: This book has very offensive and vulgar profanity laced throughout.
