Hurts So Good

I’ve always liked sad songs, sad movies, sad books. It seems to defy logic sometimes, that something that makes us feel pain or shed tears can be something we like. Or if “like” is the wrong word, perhaps it’s better to say these are things we indulge in. There are plenty of things going on in the world, real and terrible things, that leave us reeling that it can seem somehow counterintuitive to… (more)

Love this series! Highly recommend if you like series and movies that portray more realistic lives of people. Lots of issues/topics are touched on so makes for great discussion with others who watch.

I don't watch a lot of TV, but this series is binge-worthy!

Better than average show I think but not as great as I had heard. But, then again, I don't think we have watched a TV series regularly since maybe Boston Legal (James Spader and William Shatner). Mostly likable characters. Kevin is a little hard to like at times. It took us a while to get used to the time jumping but once we figured that out, we followed it fairly easily. Overall, really good but not great.

I loved watching This Is Us because of how genuine the story is. It showcases adoption, fat-shaming, racism and so many more social problems. I believe that anyone watching the show could relate to it because of its dynamic. The story highlights a loving couple Jack Pearson (played by Milo Ventimiglia) and Rebecca Pearson (played by Mandy Moore) and their children; it shares the family's journey from the birth of their kids to their kids as adults in present day society. The story always switches back and forth to different decades of their children's lives which I find special to watch; many TV shows don’t do this as they’re always in one time era. The series was created by Dan Fogelman who also wrote the movie Crazy Stupid Love starring Steve Carell and Ryan Gosling. This Is Us is a great family watch together series because I feel that it's appropriate for most audiences and it’s very heartfelt. I would give the first season 4/5 stars because I really enjoyed watching the story unravel through every episode. The cast also brought the story to life in scenes that were playful and others that were serious.

This is Us had been showing up in my Recommendations List for a very long time so I finally decided to give it a shot. The first episode starts off with a young couple rushing to the hospital as the wife goes into early labor. The story revolves around a specific family who later grows on to form beautiful families off their own. The show has some amazing characters with huge character developments and some very emotional scenes. It is very easy to be able to relate to any character on the show and to fall in love with them within just a few episodes. Overall, I would describe the show as very heart-warming and something that I would definitely recommend everyone to watch. Rating: 4.5/5

I enjoy the way the timeline keeps going back and forth and how it all ties together. And to see why (from the past scenes) characters are acting the way they are now.

Manipulative and unbelievable. Hyperactive plot.

This was an entertaining series that starts out about a young couple and you find out soon enough that it is also about their adult children and their separate life experiences. It moves back and forth in time with the greatest of ease. The writing is good, the soundtrack is good, there are two professional singers in the cast (Chrissy Metz and Mandy Moore) and it was fun to hear them sing. It is fun to see the adult children as their child selves and see the family back story played out. I also appreciate that it isn't mean spirited and takes on issues of racism, sexism, obesity without a laugh track. I recommend it for anyone who likes human interest stories and family dramas.
I look forward to a second season.

It is rare these days to find such good writing on the "regular networks". Wonderful series. Wonderful acting. It is not a surprise that Ken Olin is involved since "Thirty Something" was a great ensemble series many years ago. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! Kristi & Abby Tabby

Wonderful acting and directing. Excellent drama. Not a tear jerker as I was told, but very interesting stories. This feels more real than anything I've seen in years. Real problems and real life for all but one of the main characters. People dealing with pain and family dysfunction in surprisingly healthy ways. Not a series for reality show junkies. (Sort of an anti-"Parenthood" series [2010-2015] where all the actors screamed all the time and reveled in their misery.)
