A charming coming of age story about college and transitioning from veganism.

More disturbing than scary, and really well done. This is not a teenage jump scare movie.

Not too great of a movie, but if you love french and stupid and a little bit of nonsense then by all means disregard my review

A young female prodigy is joining her sister at veterinary school where all the freshman have to undergo some serious hazing to be admitted into the student body. Our young vegan female heroine suffers through a minor initiation rite which for some reason leaves her with an unnatural craving for flesh afterwards. I am not sure I understand all the critical raves about it as it looks like a slow moving low budget B movie which doesn't really go anywhere but just tests how squeamish we can get the audience to be.

Not until after persevering through this film did I realize that it actually had something to say: it's a grisly and uniquely extreme metaphor for the damage that parents can pass down to their children. However you must see the movie through to the end to get this, and it appears most either aborted early or reacted instead with revulsion simply to the film's outer shock value. Sitting through it for this not-breaking-news, but powerful, payoff is of course up to you.

BBC movie critic Mark Kermode kind of took Roger Ebert's place for me after Roger passed away. Mark recently included this film in his top ten list of his favorite films in the last decade, posted on YT. That's what led me to this film, having never before heard of it. However, "favorite" to me means likely to be re-watched. which I'm currently not anticipating.

It's a very well-made French film that starts off with the profoundly abusive hazing ritual of freshmen at a veterinary school (??), which in the real world would never be tolerated. The incoming freshman we follow is a vegetarian young woman who comes to develop a taste for human flesh. I'll just leave it at that.

Virtually none of the principals, nor the student body as a whole, behaves in a way that would indicate the caring personality for healing family pets and farm animals, and whose passion for same would propel them to careers in veterinary medicine. Other than that, the film has absolutely first-rate production values, direction, soundtrack, photography. and acting, all in the service of numerous deeply disturbing scenes that are difficult to watch and that I sometimes turned away from. So just be forewarned - probably not a film you'll want to snack with.

This movie was not as gory or disturbing as I thought it to be. In fact, it was more full of immature initiations than anything. Sure there were some scenes that made me squirm, but nothing really stood out to me. I mean, it just felt like an overall pointless film. Throw in some blood, have a homely vegetarian girl eat meat, etc and call this a horror movie, thriller or whatever? Please. I wasn't born yesterday.

An extremely disturbing French art film. Definitely not for children.

Raw is a cultural commentary on certain societal norms. The story relies on gore to convey its lack of creativity. This within itself is a statement on the behaviour of an individual culture as viewed through dominance of others. Just another zombie movie with a twist.

An impressive French horror movie. Disturbing.

Excellent film! The acting is great and realistic, the story line is great.
It's almost as if this movie takes a deep look at what it really is like to be a sixteen year old girl who's on her on for the first time, exploring her sexual awakening, giving in to peer pressure just to fit in, and finding out dark family secrets.

This movie was smart, original and well thought out, we need more horror films that are directed by women like this one was. I feel like this movie has a chance to be a classic if given the chance.

Huge disclaimer: This is NOT for the faint of heart. It's bloody, brutal, gross, and nauseating. So be forewarned. THAT ASIDE: this is actually a really good movie. It's not quite true horror, but the events are truly horrifying.
