In this stand-alone companion to the New York Times bestselling Daughter of Smoke & Bone series comes the story of Mik and Zuzana's fantastical first date--as a gorgeously illustrated gift edition with bonus content included.
Petite though she may be, Zuzana is not known for timidity. Her best friend, Karou, calls her "rabid fairy," her "voodoo eyes" are said to freeze blood, and even her older brother fears her wrath. But when it comes to the simple matter of talking to Mik, or "Violin Boy," her courage deserts her. Now, enough is enough. Zuzana is determined to make the first move, and she has a fistful of magic and a plan. It's a wonderfully elaborate treasure hunt of a plan that will take Mik all over Prague on a cold winter's night before leading him to the treasure: herself! Violin Boy is not going to know what hit him.
New York Times bestselling author Laini Taylor brings to life a night only hinted at in the Daughter of Smoke & Bone trilogy--the magical first date of fan-favorites Zuzana and Mik. Originally published as an ebook, this new print edition will include breathtaking black and white illustrations, plus bonus content in a gorgeous package perfect for new and current fans of the series.

I have not yet read The Daughter of Smoke & Bone, but I still adored this short, adorable story about two misfits' first date.

This is the book of my heart. While I am over the moon about Daughter of Smoke and Bones, this spin off is so quick, fun and light hearted, while keeping me on edge seeing the main characters fall for one another. In one magical night everything comes together, even if a little manipulation is necessary. The added illustrations by the husband of the author only serve to enhance the tale.

This book is just plain cute. It's so cute I want to cuddle it and wrap it in a blanket. While Karou is off saving the world, her best friend Zuzana is back in Prague, pining after Mik, aka Violin Boy. A confection of a novella, with illustrations, this is the kind of intermission story in a series that fans love.

Zuzana is a puppeteer in a theatre and Mik is in the orchestra of the group, but she's too afraid to talk to him directly and so leads him on a treasure hunt through the city. Taylor offers up her usual acerbic yet charming writing. Zuzana gets lines like, "I bet all stalkers believe they’re being romantic. I did it for love, officer" and about Karou's ex-boyfriend, "Kaz might deserve First Class status for Crimes of High Douchebaggery, but he’s just not quality enemy material."

Night of Cake & Puppets is a petit four of a story, sweet, light and leaves the reader ready for Taylor's next big project.

This novella is an adorable little addition to the Daughter of Smoke and Bone universe. DoSaB is so dark, so intense, and yet, Taylor gives us this sweet romance between light-hearted and quirky characters Zuzana and Mik. While Karou is globe hopping gathering wishes and teeth, Zuzana is planning how to ensorcel (her word) Violin Boy. She gives him a treasure map where the X is herself, and with the scuppies that Karou has gifted, she sets about getting Mik to fall for her. The drawings really help make this work and tell the story just as well, if not better, than the actual words. The only thing that brought this down a star is I desperately wanted MORE. I wanted to see more of them after this night, falling in love and getting to know each other. I can only hope I'll get to see more of them in the final book of the trilogy.

This was a lovely interlude in the heaviness of the Daughter of Smoke and Bone trilogy. The meet-cute of adorable couple Zuzana and Mik was just as enchanting as was only hinted at in other installments. The illustrations highlighted the whimsy of the Amelie-esque pursuit perfectly. A read that demands putting away your cynicism and just enjoying this confectionery treat.

A sweet, flirty, witty, quotable little e-book novella; this is Laini Taylor at her best. The sizzling chemistry in this had me beaming. Winter in Prague has never felt so magic-spun, like icing sugar on a dark chocolate torte. Carpe noctem!

I loved being able to get back into the daughter of smoke and bone world, but i also loved how this was a lot more fluffy and adorable. Don't get me wrong it still had magic and the creep factor, but it defiantly didn't have killing or wars in it

If you are a fan of Zana from Daughter of Smoke and Bone you will go "Yay!" for this ebook. It is only about how she and Mik got together and mostly takes places on one wintry night in Prague. If you aren't already a fan of Laini Taylor start with D of S & B. What are you waiting for? Get started!
