Three sailors have a 24-hour shore leave to enjoy New York. They are especially concerned with the female inhabitants of the city, and each finds his own to cuddle up with. Chip tries but can't resist the advances of a cab driver, Ozzie gladly fills the role of a lovely anthropologist's "prehistoric man, " and Gabey finds the model who poses for the Miss Turnstiles advertisements, who isn't quite the glamorous celebrity he envisioned.

A couple scenes are embarrassments, but this movie is still great. Sinatra and Kelly barely even seem like jerks.

Musical spectacular of the bygone era, never to be made any more, but La La Land akin to contemporary tempo, with dance and song sub to the then standard.

If you like to watch big-budget musicals from Hollywood's heyday, then, 1949's "On The Town" should be a real nice slice of pleasing entertainment for you to view.

Yes. This film's story is on the corny side, but, there are some really good musical numbers presented here and the outdoor location shooting in downtown Manhattan is a real bonus.

"On The Town" stars Frank Sinatra, Ann Miller, and Gene Kelly. It's story is all about 3 sailors on 24-hour shore-leave in NYC and all of the zany shenanigans that they end up getting into.

Hot-Diggity-Dog!!.... "On The Town" is (Indeed) a happy-go-lucky singin', dancin', and romancin' Musical/Comedy from 1949. It's a story about 3 gobs, 3 gals, and a 24-hour shore-leave.

If you enjoy watching top-notch musicals from Hollywood's heyday - Then - "On The Town" (filmed in fabulous Technicolour) comes highly recommended from this satisfied viewer.

In this high-energy picture everyone really kicks up their heels (especially Ann Miller) - And - As an added bonus - There is some very impressive outdoor location shooting filmed right in busy downtown Manhattan. Super-Duper!

A terrific musical! It has a great cast, the singing and dancing are excellent, and the screenplay is funny. Very entertaining.

Very Good 1949 Hollywood version of Broadway musical. especially the dance sequences. I'm now a big fan of Betty Garrett and, had to look her up on Wikipedia, Vera-Ellen.

Fun comic elements, too.

Had to look hard to recognize Frank Sinatra, who was 34 at the time.

Not the greatest thing they ever did ...

Buried treasure has surfaced again in "On the Town". KCLS has 7 copies and 3 patrons have checked out a copy. The reviews thus far have been from on star to five stars. I originally saw highlights in the box set of DVD's titled "That's Entertainment". The clip showed two sailors, Gene Kelly and Frank Sinatra, singing and dancing aboard a ship. I said I would watch that movie one day and now I have. I simply fell In love with the movie. Betty Garrett and Ann Miller are two beautiful singers and dancers who hook up with these two sailors. The shots of NYC and the dancing without a soundstage make this film special. Now MGM thought it good enough to make the highlights of their greatest musicals on film. I loved it myself. You be the final judge though. Please watch it if you like musicals, it is both a good story and good music and dancing. Leave me your review here on this web site. Thanks for reading the above!
