Ty Segall is one of those extremely prolific artists who just pops up on your radar one day and suddenly you’ve got 35 albums you need to hear. His explosive (second) self titled album is one of the best and most spontaneous guitar driven albums I’ve heard in recent memory.

The unstoppable, prolific Ty Segall is one of my favorite musicians. While he can be loosely called garage rock, he has more range then is initially apparent, and his music can incorporate psych rock, metal, glam rock, punk, weird folk, and noise. His self-titled 2017 album, produced by iconoclast Steve Albini, is a perfect intro to Segall, as it balances fuzzed out, glammy (He's done a whole album of T. Rex covers.) garage rock with warmer acoustic songs. Album centerpiece "Warm Hands (Freedom Returned)" gets jammy without being annoying and when the hands in the air chorus comes back at the end, your brain might just melt, but in the best possible way. Also, Oh Sees, Wand, Mikal Cronin, King Tuff, White Fence.

Some nice '70s rock created in the modern day. Glad this stuff is still being created.

Unspeakably great rock music, classic in the best sense. Segall brings everything a great, guitar-driven rock album should have: massive energy, unforgettable hooks and the occasional acoustic moment ("Take Care", "Orange Color Queen"). If you love loud, passionate and weird T Rex-style rock, look no further.
