Add a CommentI love this book. I was a bit disappointed in the movie. Johnny Mercer Music is wonderful. I enjoyed the dancing when it was real people dancing. I didn’t like all the dream scene stuff at all. Fred Astaire was very good in his part as always. He was just too old to play it. The romance becomes somewhat inappropriate to our modern eyes. It didn’t creep me out like Gigi does though. That movie is totally creepy!
The way their romance developed disturbed me....he was a stranger who paid for her schooling/housing etc and she had no interaction with but became infatuated with him anyway? It just seems wrong.
Not my favorite Fred Astaire dance numbers either...but I will admit I was distracted by the disturbing "romance."
The age difference is embarrassing.
VERY GOOD 1955 Fred Astaire dance/romance movie. Excellent 'History of the Beat' dance right at beginning - and more to come.
This was my introduction to Leslie Caron who is now one of my favorite 50's lady stars; I will be checking out more of her work. Great dancer, not a stick girl, and wearing those stylish flowing skirts, gets to show off her fab upper legs as she twirls about.
Ray Anthony and his Orchestra appear at the college dance near end which was very entertaining.
The extreme age difference romance was a bit odd.
Oh, and all the cigarette smoking included in 50's films is, I guess um, a 50's entertainment business thing. I like that contemporary Hindi films often have a strong 'cigarette smoking can kill you' warning before the film begins.
Yes, one of his best. A good way to spend a couple of hours being entertained without deep engagement.
